The West Central Education District hosts the Beacon Program within the Sauk Centre School District building.  This program is designed to provide a small group setting to assist students with Emotional and/or Behavioral Disabilities.  It is a Level IV program, which means that the students are served full-time within the program.

Our program features four highly trained staff that help to provide a consistent approach to helping students acheive their goals and re-entering their local district's mainstream program.  Our staff include Stefanie Marsh (EBD Teacher), Tara McLellan (EBD Teacher), and Sue Meyer (Assistant).  The supervisor of the program is Laurie Fevig (Assistant Director).

While the bulk of our students come from the member districts of Albany, Melrose, Paynesville, and Sauk Centre, we also have had students from Long Prairie-Grey Eagle, Browerville, and Belgrade-Brooten-El Rosa.  As a result, we have become an alternative for these districts instead of more intensive day treatment programs.  Attendance at the program is reimbursed through Special Education Tuition billed directly from the State of MInnesota, and is based on our actual costs of the program.

In addition to the basic academics you would normally expect in a school setting, we are able to provide consistent behavioral monitoring and feedback, as well as daily social skill training by our Social Worker.  We also provide other identified related services to students such as speech/language, occupational therapy, and physical therapy if they are identified on the Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

Now that we are located in the Sauk Centre building, we have improved access to technology, phy-ed, and lunchroom facilities.  The program occupies two full classrooms within the building, and with our student population generally being 10 or less, it provides us with ample space for small group activities and individual programming.
